The Recording Academy and CBS announced today that Trevor Noah, Comedy Central's Emmy Award-winning "The Daily Show" host and comedian, will return to host the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show, officially known as the 64th GRAMMY Awards. Music's Biggest Night will broadcast live from Crypto.com Arena (currently STAPLES Center) in Los Angeles Mon, Jan. 31, 2022 (8-11:30 p.m. ET live/5-8:30 p.m. PT live) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Previously, Noah hosted the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, which took place in March.

"Trevor was amazing as our host for the 63rd GRAMMY Awards with praise from the music community, music fans and critics," Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, said. "We're so excited to welcome Trevor back to the GRAMMYs stage and feel fortunate to once again have him hosting what we believe will be an unforgettable evening."

"Trevor brought his trademark talent and versatility to last March's GRAMMYs, and we can't wait for him to host the event on CBS and Paramount+ again this year," George Cheeks, President and CEO, CBS and Chief Content Officer, News & Sports, Paramount+, said.

Last week, the Recording Academy revealed the nominations for the 64th GRAMMY Awards and announced that, for the first time, there are 10 nominees in each of the General Field Categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. This year's leading nominees include Jon Batiste (11), Justin Bieber (8), Doja Cat (8), H.E.R. (8), Billie Eilish (7), and Olivia Rodrigo (7).

As the only peer-selected music accolade, the GRAMMY Awards are voted on by the Recording Academy's voting membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers.

The 64th GRAMMY Awards are produced by Fulwell 73 Productions for the Recording Academy. Ben Winston, Jesse Collins and Raj Kapoor are executive producers and Jeannae Rouzan Clay joins the team as co-executive producer. Hamish Hamilton returns as director and Kapoor serves as showrunner.

Prior to the 64th GRAMMY Awards telecast, the annual GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Mon, Jan. 31, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. PT; the Premiere Ceremony will stream live on GRAMMY.com and the Recording Academy's YouTube channel.

*Paramount+ Premium subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service as well as on demand. Essential-tier subscribers will have access to on-demand the day after the special airs.

The following is a Joint Statement from the Recording Academy and CBS:

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

Editor's Note: The 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show, officially known as the 64th GRAMMY Awards, has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 3, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The below article was updated on Tuesday, Jan. 18, to reflect the new show date and location.

The Recording Academy today announced Sony Music Group Chairman Rob Stringer will receive the 2022 GRAMMY Salute To Industry Icons award for his leadership, impact and dedication to advancing innovation in the music industry. Stringer will be celebrated at Clive Davis' and the Recording Academy's Pre-GRAMMY Gala returning to the Beverly Hilton, in person, on Sun, Jan. 30, 2022, the evening preceding the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

"Rob has been one of the most influential leaders in our industry for decades," said Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. "His work in building a more inclusive culture in music and his love for real artists have been game changing. From introducing the world to so many talented artists to always putting them first, with initiatives like Artists Forward and Songwriters Forward, Rob's impact is massive. We take great pleasure in honoring him and his groundbreaking contributions to the music community at the 2022 Pre-GRAMMY Gala."

"A music man to his core, Rob Stringer is an innovator, a pioneer and a true champion for artists," said Davis.  "He has been at the front line of change in the music industry for decades, advancing social justice and tolerance, developing major global artists, all while spearheading hit after hit after hit. The night of the Pre-GRAMMY Gala is a night that celebrates music and it is also a night that celebrates that person who has uniquely contributed to the health of the music industry and to music itself. That person, this year, is most deservedly Rob Stringer."

Stringer has been Chairman of Sony Music Group since 2019 after being appointed CEO of Sony Music Entertainment in 2016. He is responsible for leading the global strategies and activities of the world's largest music publishing company and second-largest recorded music company.

Within Sony Music, Stringer has continued expanding and evolving the company's approach to artist development and breaking hits globally. In 2021, he implemented the unprecedented programs Artists Forward and Songwriters Forward to create more earnings opportunities for artists and songwriters. The programs also prioritize health and wellness support for creators around the world.

In 2020, he was instrumental in the launch of Sony Corp's $100 million Social Justice Fund to support social justice and anti-racist initiatives around the world.

Stringer started his career at CBS Records in 1985 and rose within the company to become managing director of Epic Records in 1992 and chairman of Sony Music UK in 2001. When Sony Music entered into a joint venture with BMG in 2004, Stringer became chairman of Sony BMG Music UK. He was promoted to chairman of the U.S.-based Sony Music Label Group in 2006, and when Sony Corp. acquired BMG's half of the joint venture in 2008, he was appointed chairman of Sony Music Entertainment's Columbia Records.

Over the course of his career with Sony Music, Stringer has worked with global superstars including AC/DC, Adele, Barbra Streisand, Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, the Clash, Daft Punk, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, the Chicks, George Michael, Harry Styles, Jack White, John Legend, John Mayer, Pharrell Williams, Pink, Sade and Tony Bennett.  In addition, he has led successful collaborations between the worlds of music, television and film, and Stringer drives the continued development of digital and interactive content strategies and platforms.

Stringer joins a prominent list of previous honorees, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss, Clarence Avant, Irving Azoff, Martin Bandier, Sir Richard Branson, Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter, Clive Davis, Ahmet Ertegun, David Geffen, Berry Gordy, Lucian Grainge, Debra L. Lee, Doug Morris, Mo Ostin, and Antonio "L.A." Reid.

For the past decade, the invitation-only Pre-GRAMMY Gala includes a presentation to honor industry luminaries through the Recording Academy's GRAMMY Salute To Industry Icons award. Sponsored by Hilton, IBM, JBL, and MasterCard, the night has become one of the music industry's most distinguished events convening music's most innovative and influential creators and professionals.

The Recording Academy announced today that the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award honorees will be celebrated with the return of the Special Merit Awards Ceremony and 64th GRAMMY Nominees Reception event, which will be held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022. The recipient of the 2022 Music Educator Award, presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum, will also be honored at this event.

The previously announced Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Lionel Hampton, Marilyn Horne, Salt-N-Pepa, Selena, and Talking Heads. Ed Cherney, Benny Golson and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds were named Trustees Award honorees; and Daniel Weiss is the Technical GRAMMY Award recipient. Given the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, honorees were unable to attend the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, nor receive in-person recognition during the show, but were acknowledged in the telecast. Bonnie Raitt, who was unable to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award last year due to COVID restrictions, joins the list of previously announced 2021 honorees.

"We are so excited to celebrate the 2021 honorees at the 64th GRAMMYs to ensure they get the celebration they deserve," Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. said. "With the strict COVID protocols in place for the 63rd show, we were not able to properly and fairly honor our Special Merit Award honorees as we have done in past years. Before we induct a new class, we must come together to recognize this group of iconic creators who have paved the way not only in music, but also within our culture."

Formed in the South Bronx of New York City in 1978, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five are among the pioneers of hip-hop. The group's use of turntablism, break-beat DJing, choreographed stage routines, and lyricism was a significant force in the early development of the genre.

Lionel Hampton* started his career as a drummer in Chicago in the 1920s before he played the vibraphone with Louis Armstrong. In the 1930s, he broke barriers with the Benny Goodman Quartet, one of the first integrated jazz bands in America. In the 1940s, he formed his own Lionel Hampton Orchestra, which became one of the longest-running orchestras in jazz history.

Marilyn Horne is one of the most prolific opera singers of our time. Over her six-decade career, she has garnered numerous honors, including four GRAMMY Awards, a Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of Arts, a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters from France's ministry of culture, and a National Endowment for the Arts Opera Honors.

Bonnie Raitt is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique style blends blues, R&B, rock, and pop. After 20 years as a cult favorite, she broke through to the mainstream in the early '90s with her GRAMMY Award-winning albums Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw. Raitt's widely acclaimed 2012 independent release Slipstream was one of the top-selling independent albums and earned Raitt her 10th GRAMMY Award (Best Americana Album). In 2016, Raitt released her GRAMMY-nominated album Dig In Deep, and in 2022, she will release her 21st studio album, Just Like That…, the third release on her Redwing Records label.

As one of the first all-women rap groups, Salt-N-Pepa broke down a number of doors for women in hip-hop. Formed in Queens, New York, in 1985, the group crafted hits such as "Push It," "Shoop," "Whatta Man," and the GRAMMY-winning "None Of Your Business." They were also one of the first rap artists to cross over, laying the groundwork for hip-hop's widespread popularity in the early '90s.

The Queen of Tejano, Selena* became a household name not long after her career took off in the 1980s. Her 1993 album Live won Best Mexican-American Album at the 36th GRAMMY Awards, marking the first time a female Tejano artist won the category. Though her life was tragically cut short in 1995, Selena's crossover album, the posthumously released Dreaming Of You, sold 175,000 units on the day of its release, a then-record for a female vocalist.

Talking Heads, formed in 1975 in New York City, helped pioneer new wave music by blending elements of punk, rock, art pop, funk, and world music with an avant-garde aesthetic. In 2002, 11 years after the group disbanded, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Ed Cherney* was one of the most sought-after engineers in the industry. His four-decade career began as an assistant engineer working with Bruce Swedien and Quincy Jones on Michael Jackson's Off The Wall. Cherney went on to record, mix and engineer albums for artists such as the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, and Fleetwood Mac, among others. A four-time GRAMMY winner, he also co-founded the Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing.

Benny Golson is an international jazz legend who has composed more than 300 works over his 70-year career. He has composed and arranged music for artists such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, and Lionel Hampton, and is the only living artist to write eight jazz standards. His prolific writing also includes scores for many hit TV series and films.

Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds is a poignant tunesmith, prolific producer, superstar recording artist, and revolutionary label owner. An 11-time GRAMMY winner, including a record four Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical awards, Babyface has been instrumental in the careers of artists such as Toni Braxton, Usher and TLC and has crafted hundreds of pop and R&B hits with artists including Whitney Houston, the Whispers, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Madonna, and Eric Clapton.

Daniel Weiss is one of the true pioneers of digital technology. In 1985, he founded Weiss Engineering Ltd. in Zurich, Switzerland. The company has designed and manufactured groundbreaking digital audio equipment for mastering studios, including the IBIS digital mixing console and the ultra-high quality Gambit Series digital products.

The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording, while the Trustees Award honors such contributions in areas other than performance. The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees determines the honorees of both awards. Technical GRAMMY Award recipients are voted on by the Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committees and are ratified by the Recording Academy's Trustees. The award is presented to individuals and companies who have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording industry.

Explore the full lists of every past recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award, Technical GRAMMY Award, and Music Educator Award.

*Denotes posthumous honoree.

While the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show don't take place until next year, the nominations for Best Rap Album are here. This year's eclectic mix of nominees features many past GRAMMY winners, including Kanye West, who won the category at the 54th GRAMMY Awards in 2012 for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy; Tyler, The Creator, who won in 2020 for Igor; and Nas, who won in 2021 for King's Disease.

The Best Rap Album category awards albums "containing at least 51% playing time of tracks with newly recorded rapped performances"; producers, engineers, and the artists themselves can receive the award.

Ahead of the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show, which takes place Mon, Jan. 31, GRAMMY.com is breaking down this year's nominated albums and artists in the Best Rap Album category below.

Editor's Note: Previously nominated in the Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance categories, Drake has withdrawn his nomination at the 64th GRAMMY Awards.

The Off-Season — J. Cole

Released in May, J. Cole's sixth studio album found the rapper charting newish territory. After three acclaimed albums with, famously, no features, Cole — a 12-time GRAMMY nominee and one-time winner — invited a bevy of collaborators into the studio for The Off-Season, including Lil Baby, 6LACK and 21 Savage. Yet, despite the switch-up, Cole found just as much success as with his previous releases.

The Off-Season reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, his sixth consecutive chart-topping album. Four of the album's tracks debuted in the Top 10, including the single "My Life," a collaboration with 21 Savage and Morray, which reached No. 2, and "Amari," which reached No. 5.

Revenge of the Dreamers III, Cole's 2019 Dreamville compilation album, was also nominated for Best Rap Album; he won the GRAMMY for Best Rap Song for "A Lot," his collaboration with 21 Savage, in 2020.

King's Disease II — Nas

Can he do it again?

A prolific artist in the '90s and 2000s, Nas took extended breaks between albums in the late aughts and 2010s before releasing Nasir in 2018. Two years later, he dropped the critically acclaimed King's Disease. After landing 14 GRAMMY nominations across his three-decade career, Nas nabbed his first-ever GRAMMY win, for Best Rap Album, with King's Disease at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards in March.

King's Disease II, the album's follow-up released this summer, is a jubilant return to form for Nas. Featuring show-stopping collaborations with beloved rap stars like Eminem and Ms. Lauryn Hill, it completes the story of vulnerability first heard on King's Disease.

The album had Nas so excited, he even took to the streets to hand out copies. "ALBUM GOT ME OUT HERE ACTING LIKE A BOOTLEGGER IN 2004," he wrote on an Instagram video post.

Call Me If You Get Lost — Tyler, The Creator

On his sixth studio album, Tyler, the Creator continued to push the boundaries of rap like he did on his GRAMMY-winning Igor. Featuring artists like Ty Dolla Sign, 42 Dugg, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrell Williams, among many others, Call Me If You Get Lost leaned into more unusual stylistic elements like jazz, soul, synth-pop, and reggae.

Narrated by DJ Drama, the album introduces the character "Tyler Baudelaire," as he explores an abundant new lifestyle. In an interview with artist Tyler Mitchell on Vogue.com, Tyler said Call Me If You Get Lost was an attempt to play into the "new money" and "new lifestyle" tropes he's seen through other artists. "I want to listen to hard-ass rap, but like, I want to do it in my way. I want to flex about traveling and eating this and doing that, and that's what it is," he told Mitchell.

Call Me If You Get Lost debuted at No. 1, Tyler's second chart-topping album; it follows his 2019 album, Igor, which won the GRAMMY for Best Rap Album at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards in 2020, marking Tyler's first-ever GRAMMY win.

Donda — Kanye West

After much fanfare and many delays, Kanye West released Donda, his 10th solo album, in late August. Originally set to drop in 2020 under the title God's Country, Donda underwent massive changes all the way up to the final moments before its official release.

West hosted three listening events for fans and celebrities alike in Atlanta and Chicago prior to the album's release, fueling more anticipation for the project. After his listening party at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in July, West took temporary residence in a locker room in the stadium to make final adjustments and recordings to the record alongside fellow producer Mike Dean.

Donda, which hit No. 1 upon its release, featured a number of collaborators, including Jay-Z, Lil Baby, the Weeknd, Playboi Carti, and West's Sunday Service Choir. In addition to featuring hip-hop, trap and drill elements, Donda also incorporated elements of gospel, as previously heard on West's groundbreaking 2019 album, Jesus Is King.
