Streaming service Tidal announced the launch of a new video playlist feature called My Video Mix. The algorythm-based feature will incorporate human curation to create up to eight distinct playlists from the more than 250,000 videos hosted by the platform.

TIDAL now has a new "Video" section that features "My Video Mix," a personalized curation of music videos that offers an easy way to listen and watch all your favorites in one place.

"From original content, to full-length movies and stunning visuals from artists in its unparalleled video catalog, Tidal provides its members with a well-rounded music experience," Tidal COO Lior Tibon said. "My Video Mix and the app redesign reaffirms TIDAL's commitment to create a best-in-class experience for members."

The new video playlist feature follows My Mix, Tidal's daily personalized audio-only playlist generator and answer to Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist.

Tidal partnered with the Recording Academy recently for Behind The Record, a social media initiative highlighting all of the creators that made your favorite albums and records possible.

The new My Video Mix feature is available now on Tidal.

Today, Oct. 24, the Recording Academy announced the new Behind the Record social media initiative to highlight all creators behind the music. Concurrently, Pandora, a supporter of the program, has launched a new full credits feature for millions of songs on their streaming platform.

When listening to a song on Pandora, users can now dig deeper into it by clicking on the title, followed by the "See All Song Credits" link. This exciting new service is up and running on their web player and new desktop app.

"You always have to give credit where it's due! Songwriters and producers put their heart into what they create! And to know who it comes from makes it even more special and personal," GRAMMY winner H.E.R. told Pandora.

Back in July, TIDAL, another supporter of Behind the Record, launched TIDAL Credits. Users of their music streaming platform, can now dig into artists' pages and explore all their credits, as a performer, songwriter, producer and more.

You can now dig into this credit treasure troves on both Pandora and TIDAL. Visit behindtherecord.grammy.com to learn more about Behind the Record, and use the Credit Cover generator if you're an artist.

And don't forget to join the conversation by sharing and searching social media using #GiveCredit, #WeAreMusic and #BehindTheRecord, starting tomorrow, Oct. 25.

The sounds of Detroit have gone worldwide thanks to Motown and the city's legendary local talent — from Aaliyah and Aretha Franklin to Kid Rock and Jack White. On Feb. 21, Tidal announced its $1 million endowed Tidal Unplugged program, "kicking it off in Detroit" to elevate the next generation of still-undiscovered talent. Submissions to apply open on March 1.

Two venture-capital philanthropists came on board with donations to support this incubator for musical innovation, Mark Lampert and Robert Nelsen.

"We're giving artists the means and resources to pursue their passion," explains Tidal Unplugged's web page. "All local artists are welcome to submit an acoustic performance to be eligible for the program." The finalists will be announced in May.

Tidal Unplugged will craft a personalized support plan that can include living expenses, studio time and mentorship. Finalists will be expected to complete four tracks which will premier exclusively through the Tidal Rising program to raise awareness for emerging artists.

"The Tidal Rising program is incredibly special to everyone at Tidal — from the interns to the artist-owners — we recognize the power of streaming and the importance of supporting and encouraging emerging musicians,” said Tidal Senior VP of Artist Relations Jason Kpana. "Being able to expand the program to support musicians in an authentic and substantial way is truly an honor."

Creators retain 100 percent of their rights to the master recordings. A November Tidal Unplugged showcase will spotlight the results of this ambitious investment in developing talent. Learn more at Tidal Unplugged.

Mobile breakthrough moves Tidal HiFi tier from the desktop to everywhere

Two years ago, the major labels and the trade association RIAA announced their support for the hi-res initiative "Stream The Studio," and streaming subscription service Tidal launched its desktop HiFi tier, using Master Quality Authenticated technology. Consumers wondered how soon it would be possible to enjoy master-quality recordings on mobile. On Jan. 7 that question was answered, as Tidal Masters announced its MQA support for Android devices.

"This is a major advancement for the audiophile community and TIDAL's HiFi members," said Tidal COO Lior Tibon. "As our platform evolves, our partnership with MQA continues to expand and cements our position as a leader in the High-Fidelity audio space."

The MQA format was launched in 2016 by its inventor Bob Stuart and uses what it calls "Music Origami" to permit compressed tracks to unfold with maximum quality, matching the in-studio sonic detail approved by recording artists, whenever possible.

"We know that most music fans are choosing to stream on their phones," said MQA CEO Mike Jbara. "MQA's view is that you should have the best quality sound regardless of where you're listening. We're delighted that, through our ongoing collaboration with TIDAL, access to master quality audio is now expanding across mobile."

Mobile communications have led the music streaming revolution and it is the beginning of a new era that audiophile-grade listening is now enabled on the convenient devices. For artists reaching out to fans in new ways via social, studio-quality sound enhances their musical power to move listeners.
