March 16 just became a bigger Urban day in Austin, Texas as country music star Keith Urban has been confirmed to perform at SXSW 2018 that night at Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater.

In addition to having something to sing about headlining his 8:00 p.m. set with appearances by Devon Gilfillian, Larkin Poe, and Lauren Ruth Ward, Urban will have something to say too. His speaking engagement was announced last year and his topic will be "Creation and Connection" at 12:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center. Urban knows a thing or two about the topic, considering his four GRAMMY wins have all come in the category Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

Urban's upcoming Graffiti U album is expected later this year and he has announced his tour with Kelsea Ballerini will run June through November. First on our updated list of must-see music festivals because it's the earliest in the year, SXSW Music is sure to kick off an amazing summer of festivals, and we'll be there.

On a recent episode of the GRAMMY Museum's "Required Listening" podcast, Keith Urban revealed the inspiration behind "Coming Home," the first track on his new album, 2018's Graffiti U. Now, the GRAMMY winner has released a brand-new video for his upbeat collaboration with Julia Michaels.

"The first song on this album is called 'Coming Home' and I actually used a Merle Haggard sample to spark the song," Urban told "Required Listening" host Scott Goldman. "I didn't have any idea what the song would be about but when I started hearing this rolling guitar intro of 'Mamma Tried,' it immediately made me think of growing up in Australia."

As described by Rolling Stone, the video displays an American surrealist landscape where Urban, trapped in the city, travels through his mind to the musical escape of hearing and seeing "Coming Home" at a club where he both sits and performs the pump song with Michaels. The surrealism allows Midwestern pastures to mentally connect with the small club venue where his latest hit is itself the answer to urban alienation. It all makes for a great escape in its country-loving self, both as a song and in its refreshing mindscape of a music video.

Urban's Graffiti U, his 10th studio album, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The GRAMMY winner will kick off a world tour in support of the LP on June 15 in St. Louis.

SXSW 2018: Eddy Cue On The Expanding Apple Ecosystem

Keynote conversation takes into account new models for music consumption

There's no doubt that Apple has made some sweeping changes to the way its products align with the consumption of music — look no further than the success of their Apple Music streaming service or the rampant rumors the iTunes music digital download store could be discontinued.

In a keynote conversation held at SXSW at the Austin Convention Center in Texas on March 12, Apple Senior VP, Internet, Software and Services Eddy Cue took some time to shed light into Apple's ecosystem expansion plans, including the music sector, with CNN's Dylan Byers.

The Apple Music subscription service grew in line with expectations last month, from 36 million subscribers to 38 million. But the paying customers for Apple Music and other subscription services are just a small part of the much larger demographic Apple is already serving.

"We have half a billion people visiting the App Store every week," said Cue. "There are easily 2 billion people in the world who can afford to pay for some level of music, yet Spotify and Apple Music combined have only around 100 million subs globally. There's a huge gap there and we both have to grow by a significant amount in order to get to the numbers that we should be at. … The opportunity here … is about sheer growth for music streaming, about compensating for that audience gap."

In addition, Cue highlighted Apple's smart speaker, HomePod, emphasizing its high music intelligence and its potential in a market with other smart speakers. Cue also reported the expanding adoption for Apple's AR software development kit, now in use by more than 2,000 App Store titles, saying the technology would become "a mainstream product that people use every single day."

Focusing on various touchpoints in Apple's business model, from streaming to apps, AR and more, it seems no matter what the rumors say, Apple isn't straying far from keeping music at the core of their business.

The Outside Lands festival is coming to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on the weekend of Aug. 9–11. They announced their lineup this morning including 61st GRAMMY Awards Record Of The Year winner Childish Gambino and Album Of The Year winner Kacey Musgraves. Gambino aka Donald Glover also won for Best Music Video, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Song Of The Year. Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour also won Best Country Album. Her track "Space Cowboy" won best Country Song and "Butterflies" won Best Country Solo Performance. The overlap between Outside Lands and winning at the 61st Awards doesn't stop there.

Other 61st winners in Outside Lands' lineup announced on March 26 are Leon Bridges, Lauren Daigle, Ella Mai, PJ Morton, and Anderson .Paak. Nominees from this year's show include Bebe Rexha and Tierra Whack. Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 61st as well.

The Outside Lands lineup is filled with winners of GRAMMY awards from other years as well. The list includes Edie Brickell, Flume, Lil Wayne, Paul Simon, and Mavis Staples. Blink-182, Counting Crows, Hozier, the Lumineers, and Bob Moses are among the artists in the lineup who've previously been nominated for GRAMMY awards.

GRAMMY wins and nominations are recognition for artists but the lesser-known acts coming to Golden Gate Park in August are also exciting and well worth a listen. We've covered San Holo, Yaeji and others. With a lineup this entertaining, the experience in the park this summer is bound to be fantastic.
