Colombian Singer Carlos Vives Donates Land For New Railway Museum
GRAMMY-winning Colombian singer/songwriter Carlos Vives will donate land located near an antique train station in Bogota,Colombia, so a railway museum can be built.
The singer will hand over the land to the Association of Railroad Engineers of Colombia (AIFC) to build a museum that will display the history and evolution of the train in the country from 1836 to the present, according to El Universal.
"It gives me great happiness to be able to give this land back to the city to finally develop a cultural project," Vives said in a statement in Spanish. "This way the new generations can know the history of the train in Colombia and with them we can work on a better future to develop the railway system in our country."
There is no museum of its kind in the country so far and AIFC President Maximiliano Tovar said the unexpected land donation brought a lot of happiness as it would give the railway system an important presence in Colombia.
Vives acquired the land in 1996 in hopes of building a music school but was not able to go forward with the school due to a change of regulations.
