Bruno Mars Wins Best R&B Performance | 2018 GRAMMYs
Bruno Mars won Best R&B Performance for "That's What I Like" at the 60th GRAMMY Awards. Not only did he win for Best R&B Performance at the Premiere Ceremony, he also earned GRAMMY wins for Best R&B Song for "That's What I Like" and Best R&B Album for 24K Magic.
The Hawaii native mixed up an alchemist-like chemistry on his 2017 album 24K Magic, which Mars wanted to feel like a movie.
"It was a long journey to get to this album," Mars told Beats 1. "With this album, I wanted to make a movie. A real movie. I told myself, 'I am shooting a movie and I need the opening to let everybody know what time it is, what's that gonna sound like?' And that was [the song] '24K Magic.' It was the opening to a movie."
The infectious cinematic hit and resulting album also proved to be popular with fans. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and both the album and "That's What I like" soared to multiplatinum status. But the acclaim isn't necessarily what Mars is after. He just wants his music to speak for itself.
"I hope that my music does the talking," said Mars. "I just want to do music. … I want to be the guy that brings joy to your life through his music. That's it."
The other nominees for Best R&B Performance were Daniel Caesar's "Get You," featuring Kali Uchis, Kehlani's "Distraction," Ledisi's "High," and SZA's "The Weekend."
