The Chainsmokers' 2014 viral hit "#Selfie" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second EP, 2016's Collage, reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200, spawning "Closer" featuring Halsey, which was the longest-running No. 1 hit in the United States in 2016.
The duo won their first career GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording for "Don't Let Me Down" featuring Daya at the 59th GRAMMY Awards.
Both Pall and Taggart have a music education background. Pall was a student at New York University and majored in art history and music business; Taggart attended Syracuse University's prestigious Bandier Program, which focuses on the business of combining music, media, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
In September 2016, the duo took part in "Spotlight: The Chainsmokers," a GRAMMY Museum program during which they discussed their formation, indie roots and creative processes.
