District Advocate Day Registration Launches: Here's How Everyone Can Get Involved
"District Advocate is a way to ensure my voice is heard" –Conversations In Advocacy #61
Attention Recording Academy members: registration opened today for the sixth annual District Advocate day scheduled for Oct. 2! Each year, District Advocate mobilizes Academy members to amplify their voices in the fight for creators' rights across the U.S. by meeting with their local congressional representatives in the largest grassroots advocacy movement for music.
Not a Recording Academy member? You can still participate in District Advocate day by contacting your local lawmakers using the Music Advocacy Action Tool and supporting music creators on social media. Every voice matters!
"Building relationships in Congress to further progress for music creators is critical," one Academy member said. "There is a personal connection made at District Advocate day… that makes our meetings memorable and unique."
Change is what you make it. Last year, More than 1,500 music creators raised their voices on District Advocate day and played an integral role in the passage of the Music Modernization Act. But this is only the beginning. There is much more work to be done.
For instance, lawmakers are currently considering the Copyright Alternative Small Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act, would create a copyright small claims court that would help independent music creators protect their work. There is also an ongoing battle to establish a performance right for sound recordings, maintain and increase funding for the arts and music education, and ensure fair compensation for songwriters. Now is the perfect time to join our voices and make a difference.
Calling all @RecordingAcad members! We're excited to be kicking off registration for the 6th annual #DistrictAdvocate day, Oct. 2nd!
